EVENING SHIFT SUPERVISOR

Summary of Role: Supervise the overall operation of the Emergency Shelter according to established policies and procedures. Ensure that a safe and sanitary environment is maintained.  Provide leadership and direction to all staff on assigned shifts.  Work closely with the clinic and Case Management Team in a collaborative effort to ensure that guests have knowledge of and access to all available services. Provide direct supervision to the 3-11 Assistant Supervisor, 3 Shift Coordinators and all relief workers assigned to the shift.  Ensure that guests are treated with respect.  Personnel responsibilities include all hiring, training, performance management and payroll preparation activities.  This position requires some flexibility around scheduling in order to attend meetings and training. On call coverage is required.

 

 Qualifications:

 

Education/Experience

·         An undergraduate degree in human services or business/human services management with at least 3 years of supervisory experience or a minimum of five years documented supervisory experience including staff hiring, training and evaluation required.

·         Previous experience working with individuals who have substance abuse and/or mental health issues.

·         Experience working in a culturally diverse environment.

  • Training and experience in crisis intervention and behavior management techniques.

·         Bilingual/bicultural Spanish/English abilities are preferred

 

Basic Knowledge/Skills

·         Knowledge and understanding of substance abuse and mental illness.

·         Excellent written and oral communication skills required.

·         Strong interpersonal, conflict resolution and crisis management skills

·         Strong leadership, team building and organizational skills.

·         Ability to effectively provide supervision to culturally, racially and gender diverse work team

·         Certification in CPR and CPI needed. 

  • Knowledge of boundaries and issues related to the Code of Ethics. 

·         Computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Word, email, and data base knowledge sufficient to ensure data gathering and tracking

 

Physical and Mental Requirements

·         Requires standing for long periods of time. 

·         Requires stooping, bending, walking, stretching as well as the ability to lift the weight of an adult male when needed. 

·         Ability to work in a stressful environment. 

·         Ability to remain calm and respond quickly to a crisis. 

·         Ability to make sound decisions in a timely manner.

·         Ability to handle multiple tasks and work productively in an environment where there are frequent interruptions. 

·         Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.  

 

Essential Functions:

  • Supervises and ensures that the overall operation of the Emergency Shelter runs according to established policies and procedures.               
  • Ensures coordination between Shelter Departments, Programs and other shifts. (Direct Care, Clinic, Case Managers, Work Crew and Transitional Programs).  Works effectively with Supervisors from other shifts as part of a cohesive team.
  • Ensures that all guests are properly registered and orientated to the shelter.
  • Ensures that all guests receive an appropriate level of support, care and services.
  • Ensures that a safe and respectful environment is maintained in the shelter.
  • Provides direction, leadership and support to all staff members assigned to the shift.
  • Hires, trains, and evaluates the job performance of an Assistant Supervisor, 3 Shift Coordinators and relief staff members.  Fosters staff development.  Participates in practices involving progressive disciplinary action when necessary.
  • Establishes and maintains regular supervision meetings with the Assistant Supervisor and Shift Coordinators.
  • Delegates duties and tasks to staff members assigned to the shift.
  • Facilitates shift meetings.
  • Ensures that sanitary conditions are maintained in the shelter. (I moved this under the staffing responsibilities.)
  • Communicates the need for repairs to the Day Shift Supervisor.
  • Provides orientation to the shelter for newly assigned detail officers.  Provides direction to the detail officer as needed.
  • Ensures data collection and tracking is accurate and submitted on time.
  • Ensures that all relevant information is documented in the log and communicated to appropriate personnel as necessary.
  • Insures that all paperwork requirements and incident reports are completed on each shift.
  • Ensures that employee time sheets are filled out accurately and complete for the week.
  • Scheduling. Ensures that minimal staffing levels are maintained on all shifts.
  • Attends weekly social service rounds.
  • Attends Supervisors’ Meetings as scheduled and other meetings when assigned.
  • Provides on call coverage as required.

 

 

Salary Range:  $39,140—41,200 Commensurate with experience.
